LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jestina McPherson-Dawson, Class of
2004, upon the occasion of her induction into the 2014 SUNY Delhi
Athletic Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Jestina McPherson-Dawson, Class of 2004, upon the occasion of her
induction into the 2014 SUNY Delhi Athletic Hall of Fame, to be cele-
brated at an induction ceremony held during Alumni Weekend on June 6-8,
2014; and
WHEREAS, During her career at SUNY Delhi, Jestina McPherson-Dawson was
a three-time Cross Country and Track and Field NJCAA All-American, twice
in cross country, and once in track in the steeplechase; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, Jestina McPherson-Dawson was a member of the
National Championship cross country team, which marked SUNY Delhi's
first Women's National team title in any sport; she also earned All-Re-
gion and All-Conference honors several times; and
WHEREAS, An athlete of many accomplishments, Jestina McPherson-Dawson
received the Coach's Award for cross country and track and field, and
was the two-time recipient of Delhi's Female Athlete of the Year in 2000
and 2001; in addition, she qualified and competed both years at the
National Indoor Track Championships, and competed on the swimming and
diving team; and
WHEREAS, Jestina McPherson-Dawson attended Union Endicott High School;
today, she is a loyal supporter of her Delhi alma mater; and
WHEREAS, Since graduating, Jestina McPherson-Dawson has continued to
run many road races while raising five children and teaching Culinary
Arts at Broome Tioga BOCES; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as Jestina McPherson-Dawson provide a tremen-
dous service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring gener-
ations of student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their
success in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Jestina McPherson-Dawson has clearly been an inspiration to
the youth of SUNY Delhi, as well as to the community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jestina McPherson-Dawson, Class of 2004, upon the occasion
of her induction into the 2014 SUNY Delhi Athletic Hall of Fame; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jestina McPherson-Dawson, Class of 2004.
