LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Kerhonkson Fire Company upon the
occasion of receiving the Unit Citation Award by the Ulster County
Volunteer Firemen's Association
WHEREAS, Fire departments are an integral part of community protection
services in every locality of our State; the courageous and devoted
firefighters of the Kerhonkson Fire Company have valiantly responded to
all types of fire emergencies and have won the praise and respect of the
community which they serve; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Kerhonk-
son Fire Company upon the occasion of receiving the Unit Citation Award
by the Ulster County Volunteer Firemen's Association to be celebrated at
its convention held on Friday, July 25, 2014, at the VFW in Saugerties,
New York; and
WHEREAS, The Kerhonkson Fire Company will receive this auspicious
award for their heroic actions with a vehicle accident incident; and
WHEREAS, On March 2, 2013, the Kerhonkson Fire Company received a call
for a vehicle accident on Route 209 near Colony Farm in the Town of
Wawarsing, New York, with entrapment; once on the scene, firefighters
immediately went into motion with every man assigned a specific job,
whether it was an extrication team, running equipment from the truck, or
operating pumps, every job was crucial in the extrication process; and
WHEREAS, The firefighters of Kerhonkson Fire Company worked diligently
and without haste, making an extremely delicate and tedious extrication;
with two extrication teams working on the vehicle, the firefighters kept
calm and worked as quickly as possible but very methodically, using just
about every tool on the rescue truck; and
WHEREAS, Due to their knowledge and extensive training, the firefight-
ers of Kerhonkson Fire Company were able to free the victim; and
WHEREAS, With a membership of dedicated firefighters, the record of
Kerhonkson Fire Company in public service and fire protection is one to
be envied; for 24 hours a day, for 365 days a year, whenever the alarm
sounded, these noble volunteers left their homes and went to the aid of
their neighbors; and
WHEREAS, The brave firefighters of Kerhonkson Fire Company are
prepared to risk their lives every day to help save the lives of others
and to protect homes and property from the destruction caused by fire;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to the skill and devoted service demonstrated by
individual firefighters, Kerhonkson Fire Company reflects the history
and development of firefighting over the past several years; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude to
those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that we should give
special recognition to those who work so assiduously for the betterment
of their communities, and acknowledge publicly the heroic good works
performed by the volunteer fire departments of this great Empire State,
their officers and auxiliaries; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
proudly commend the Kerhonkson Fire Company upon the occasion of receiv-
ing the Unit Citation Award by the Ulster County Volunteer Firemen's
Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Kerhonkson Fire Company.
