LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Bunkers in Baghdad for its dedicated
efforts in support of our armed service members at home and abroad
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the great
State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good works
of those patriotic and civic-minded community members who dedicate their
lives and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, Individuals and organizations devoted to improving the quali-
ty of life of members of the United States Armed Forces are deserving of
the highest praise and recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Bunkers in Baghdad for its dedicated efforts in support of our armed
service members at home and abroad; and
WHEREAS, Bunkers in Baghdad is a not-for-profit charity that collects
and sends new and used golf balls, clubs and equipment to our troops
deployed in 30 countries around the world, with a focus on the brave men
and women currently serving in combat zones; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed organization has been highly active in New York
State providing numerous donations to members of the New York State
National Guard on assignment overseas; in addition, they have made
substantial contributions to soldiers stationed at Fort Drum, New York,
and at the Niagara Falls Air Force Base, as well as to Marines and Army
recruiting stations across the state; and
WHEREAS, Bunkers in Baghdad has admirably collected and shipped more
than five million golf balls and over 150,000 golf clubs to troops serv-
ing overseas over the past six years; and
WHEREAS, A proud supporter of the Wounded Warriors Project, Bunkers in
Baghdad has provided golfing equipment to aid in the rehabilitation of
injured soldiers at Veteran's hospitals across New York State and the
entire country; and
WHEREAS, Through its Bunkers Buddies program, the group has worked
with over 165 schools in 42 states, helping collect children's letters
and pictures to be enclosed in golf care packages for our deployed
troops; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous accolades, Bunkers in Baghdad had
the honor of ringing the closing Bell at the New York Stock Exchange in
2009; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and associations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Bunkers in Baghdad for its dedicated efforts in support of our
armed service members at home and abroad; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph M. Hanna, Esq., President and Founder of Bunkers in
Baghdad.
