LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Honorable Joseph C. Teresi upon
the occasion of his retirement after many years of distinguished service
as New York State Supreme Court Justice of the Third Judicial District

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
the significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
individuals whose lives have been committed to the pursuit of excellence
and who bring great pride to the citizens of our great State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
The Honorable Joseph C. Teresi upon the occasion of his retirement after
many years of distinguished service as New York State Supreme Court
Justice of the Third Judicial District, to be celebrated with a Retire-
ment Party in his honor on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Martel's Restau-
rant, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Delmar, Justice Joseph C. Teresi, 67, will
retire in June of 2014, after more than 20 years on the bench; and
WHEREAS, In 1964, Justice Joseph C. Teresi graduated from the Vincen-
tian Institute in Albany, New York; he continued his education and grad-
uated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accounting from
Boston College in 1968; he earned his Doctor of Law degree from Albany
Law School in 1971; and
WHEREAS, Since January 1, 1994, Justice Joseph C. Teresi has served as
New York State Supreme Court Justice of the Third Judicial District with
civil and criminal cases as well as trial assignments in the Fourth
Judicial District of Saratoga, Warren and Essex Counties, and the Ninth
Judicial District of Westchester, Rockland, New York and Bronx Counties;
and
WHEREAS, Prior to his role in this esteemed position, Justice Joseph
C. Teresi served as an Associate and Partner with Ainsworth, Sullivan,
Tracy, Knauf, Warner and Ruslander, as well as Assistant Public Defender
for Albany County; during this time he worked as a trial attorney with
emphasis on defense litigation in torts, products liability, malprac-
tice, civil rights violations and industrial accidents; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his judicial post, Justice Joseph C. Teresi
has devoted countless hours to civic and community activities, including
the Association of Justices of the Supreme Court of the State of New
York, Albany County Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, and
Capital District Trial Lawyers Association; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, Justice Joseph C. Teresi served for one year as the
Chairperson of Task Force to Reducing Litigation Costs and Delays for
the Third Judicial District; he was a member and President of the Inn of
Court at Albany Law School from 1998 until 2003, and served as Judge at
the Moot Court Competitions at Albany Law School from 1990 until June of
2012; and
WHEREAS, Justice Joseph C. Teresi is currently a Lecturer at Albany
Law School, Clinical Legal Studies; Albany Bar Association, Bridge the
Gap Program; New York State Bar Association on Evidence, Medical Malp-
ractice, Discovery; Albany Insurance Claims Association; New York State
Police, NYS Magistrates Association Training Programs; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he also currently serves as Chair of the Board
of Trustees of the Francis Bergan Law Library at Albany County Court-
house, a position he has held since 1999; and
WHEREAS, The proud recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Justice
Joseph C. Teresi was designated as the 2001 Distinguished Alumnus by
Albany Law School, and received the Golden Lion Award in 2000 from the

Albany Order Sons of Italy; he was also designated as the 2006 Distin-
guished Alumnus by the Bishop Maginn Alumni Association; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 41 years, Mary, and
their four children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that demon-
strated by Justice Joseph C. Teresi over a lifetime of sacrifice and
dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and commend The Honorable Joseph C. Teresi upon the occasion
of his retirement, and to wish him continued success in all his future
endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Joseph C. Teresi.
