LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joy Marilyn Welcome upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Award for Outstanding Seniors in
Service by the BWICA Educational Fund
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joy
Marilyn Welcome upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Award for Outstanding Seniors in Service by the BWICA Educational Fund;
this auspicious occasion was celebrated on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, in
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Joy Marilyn Welcome has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Born in Guyana, South America, this esteemed woman migrated
to the United States in 1971, where she continued her education and
became a Certified Nurses' Assistant; and
WHEREAS, For 35 years, Joy Marilyn Welcome provided exemplary service
in the healthcare industry, receiving several awards for most outstand-
ing employee of the year; she has been consistently lauded for her dili-
gence, kindness, compassion and dependability; and
WHEREAS, Joy Marilyn Welcome has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A member of God's Battalion of Prayer Church, Joy Marilyn
Welcome enjoys giving voluntary service to her church community, using
her excellent culinary skills, and helping out in the church food
pantry; and
WHEREAS, Her commitment to her community was also illustrated through
her participation in such worthy causes as the Women's Chorale, Health
Fairs, Evangelistic Outreach, and Visitation of the Sick; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Joy Marilyn Welcome has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Carl Welcome,
their four children, and nine grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Joy Marilyn Welcome has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joy Marilyn Welcome upon the occasion of her designation as recip-
ient of the Award for Outstanding Seniors in Service by the BWICA Educa-
tional Fund; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joy Marilyn Welcome.
