LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim September 7-13, 2014, as Assisted Living Week in the State of
New York
WHEREAS, Residents of adult care and assisted living communities bring a
wealth of experience and wisdom to the active roles they play in today's
society; their past contributions are a vital part of our State's histo-
ry; and their future participation enriches the fabric of our community
life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to memorialize Governor
Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim September 7-13, 2014, as Assisted Living
Week in the State of New York, in conjunction with the observance of
National Assisted Living Week; and
WHEREAS, The number of elderly and disabled New Yorkers, and Ameri-
cans, is increasing; and
WHEREAS, Adult care and assisted living is a setting which promotes
dignity, choice, privacy, independence and autonomy for all residents
residing in our communities; and
WHEREAS, The National Center for Assisted Living proudly created
National Assisted Living Week, and together with its affiliate, the New
York State Center for Assisted Living, is dedicated to promoting high
quality, principle-driven adult care and assisted living services with a
steadfast commitment to excellence, innovation, and the advancement of
person-centered care; and
WHEREAS, The theme of the 2014 National Assisted Living Week is "The
Magic of Music" which celebrates the pleasure music brings to all gener-
ations and fills our hearts with love, comfort and joy, and offers the
residents, their family members and the staff which serve them, a pleth-
ora of events and activities to participate in and demonstrate the
commitment of this profession; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim September 7-13, 2014,
as Assisted Living Week in the State of New York, and to encourage all
citizens, both young and old, to volunteer and visit friends, family and
loved ones who reside at an adult care/assisted living facility, and to
learn more about this vital segment in the spectrum of care and how it
benefits our communities and State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
