LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Michele Paradies upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the 2014 SUNY Chancellor's Award for
Teaching Excellence
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Michele Paradies upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2014 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence, which was
celebrated on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at SUNY Orange's Annual Commence-
ment Ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Faculty and staff who receive the Chancellor's Award for
Excellence have served their students, fellow faculty and staff, campus-
es, and communities with the utmost distinction, and have demonstrated
extraordinary dedication and service to SUNY Orange; Dr. Michele Para-
dies is one such individual; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Dr. Michele Paradies joined the SUNY Orange faculty,
and primarily teaches anatomy and physiology courses to students who are
preparing to enter SUNY Orange's health professions programs; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Michele Paradies has developed and taught a
neurobiology course, and routinely instructs a challenging Honors course
entitled "Biology for Today," which addresses various topics; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michele Paradies's impact upon SUNY Orange has been felt
beyond the classroom as she is active in many facets of the College; she
mentors students from the Honors Program as they complete their required
capstone projects, and has helped guide the development and maintenance
of SUNY Orange's Educational Gardens; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Dr. Michele Paradies serves as vice president of
SUNY Orange's governance system, and has actively served on many College
committees; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michele Paradies holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in
Developmental Biology and Teratology from Thomas Jefferson College of
Graduate Studies in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; she taught in the
medical school and in Jefferson's College of Allied Health until she
graduated; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michele Paradies's postdoctoral fellowship work took
place at the University of Virginia, and during this time, she began
teaching General Biology lecture and lab at the local community college;
and
WHEREAS, After moving to Middletown, New York, Dr. Michele Paradies
was delighted to find an opening at SUNY Orange County Community
College, and has been there ever since; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michele Paradies's illustrious teaching career is dedi-
cated to helping students to understand and appreciate the complexities
of the human body, and to encourage students to become as enthusiastic
about their developing professional lives as she is about hers; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of individuals such as Dr. Michele Paradies, who, by providing
their skills and talents to our schools, work to support our proud
tradition of public education; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michele Paradies has clearly had an enduring impact on
the youth of SUNY Orange, as well as on the community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedi-
cation to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Michele Paradies upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the 2014 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Michele Paradies.
