LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Rebecca DelRossi, Maria Ricalton,
Laura Pierce and Gemma DelRossi of Hugh C. Williams High School in
Canton, New York, upon the occasion of capturing the New York State
Division II, 3,200 Meter Relay Championship

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented
high school athletes who distinguish themselves and their community
through outstanding athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
congratulate Rebecca DelRossi, Maria Ricalton, Laura Pierce and Gemma
DelRossi of Canton's Hugh C. Williams High School upon the occasion of
capturing the New York State Division II, 3,200 Meter Relay Champion-
ship; and
WHEREAS, On Saturday, June 7, 2014, on the last day of the New York
State Public High School Athletic Association's outdoor track and field
championship, the Canton Relay team won the 3,200 meter relay with a
time of 9 minutes, 8.51 seconds, finishing more than five seconds ahead
of the second place team from Bronxville, New York and breaking their
own record by almost seven seconds; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment; the outstanding performances of Rebecca DelRossi, Maria
Ricalton, Laura Pierce and Gemma DelRossi has clearly made a contrib-
ution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their school;
and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
exemplary athletes now stand honorably, with just pride in their accom-
plishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding
and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by their coach-
es, teachers, and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Rebecca DelRossi, Maria Ricalton, Laura Pierce and Gemma
DelRossi of Hugh C. Williams High School in Canton, New York, upon the
occasion of capturing the New York State Division II, 3,200 Meter Relay
Championship, and to wish them continued success in all of their future
endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rebecca DelRossi, Maria Ricalton, Laura Pierce and Gemma
DelRossi.
