LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Camar-
illo-Somis Pleasant Valley Lions Club
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those renowned organizations which devote their energy, resources and
thoughtful care to improving the quality of life in their communities;
and
WHEREAS, The Camarillo-Somis Pleasant Valley Lions Club is part of the
largest service organization in the world; Lions Club International is
an organization deeply committed to meeting the challenges of public
service; and
WHEREAS, The goal of the Camarillo-Somis Lions Club and the entire
Lions Organization is to evaluate the needs within the community, with-
out regard to politics, religion or race, and to support humanitarian
projects in response to those needs; and
WHEREAS, Lions are recognized worldwide for their service to the blind
and visually-impaired; this service began when Helen Keller challenged
the Lions to become her "knights of the blind in the crusade against
darkness" during the Lions' 1925 international convention; and
WHEREAS, The Camarillo-Somis Lions Club focuses its energies on vari-
ous community activities such as providing transportation and sighted-
guide assistance to visually impaired shoppers, and providing assistive
technology for the blind and visually impaired; they also host the annu-
al 4th of July fireworks show, as well as the annual PV Lions ROP Car
Show in May; and
WHEREAS, The Club sponsors an annual 5K run and 1K kids run, an award
winning float in the annual Camarillo Christmas Parade, and a Flag Day
for third graders in all Camarillo and Somis elementary schools, during
which Lion members visit each third grade class to talk about the Ameri-
can Flag and present each student with their own American Flag; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the many local charitable activities and
programs, the club also donates funds to support numerous large organ-
izations such as, the Braille Institute, City of Hope, Guide Dogs of
America, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., Lions Sight and Hearing Center,
Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic, Alzheimer's Disease and Related
Disorders Association of Santa Barbara, Inc., S.E.E. International,
Aeromedicos of Santa Barbara, Ear of the Lion, Inc., Lions Clubs Student
Speakers Foundation and Southern California Lions Eye Institute; and
WHEREAS, The Camarillo-Somis Pleasant Valley Lions Club is destined to
continue its noble mission of service to the community, and to the
world, exemplifying the ideals of Lions Club International for many
years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Camarillo-Somis Pleasant Valley
Lions Club, commending its members, past and present, who have labored
so conscientiously to secure and improve the quality of life in the
community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Camarillo-Somis Pleasant Valley Lions Club.
