LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 65th Anniversary of Little
League Baseball in Rhinebeck, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those endur-
ing organizations which faithfully devote their resources and purposeful
energies to fostering opportunities and contributing to the quality of
life for the youth of the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, An established American institution, Little League provides a
structure for the athletic competition which enhances the moral and
physical development of the young people of this State, preparing them
for the future by establishing the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, instilling an ambition for success, and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, The Little League Baseball program in Rhinebeck, New York, is
celebrating its 65th Anniversary and this Legislative Body recognizes
the founders for their dedication to young citizens of the town; and
WHEREAS, In 1948, the Town of Rhinebeck wanted to start a Little Leag-
ue Baseball program; and
WHEREAS, David Wager, Richard Kent, and Robert MacIntyre were instru-
mental in organizing a Little League Baseball team in Rhinebeck; the
team became known as the Rhinebeck Eagles and played their first Little
League baseball game in 1949; and
WHEREAS, From its modest beginnings in 1949, the Rhinebeck Little
League Baseball program has expanded to include T-Ball teams, B-League
teams, A-League teams and Senior League teams; and
WHEREAS, The Rhinebeck Little League Baseball program has remained
true to its commitment to provide young people with the skills of base-
ball while teaching leadership, responsibility, sportsmanship, team
spirit and the joys of comradery and competition; and
WHEREAS, At a time when the very fabric of a community, its children,
are being overwhelmed by so many societal ills, the parents, coaches and
volunteers of the Rhinebeck Little League bring reassurance and encour-
agement to these youths, teaching them how to make sound decisions and
encouraging them in their pursuit of a brighter future; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 65th Anniversary of Little League Baseball in Rhinebeck,
New York, recognizing the diligence of its efforts and the significance
of its success in serving the youth of Rhinebeck and the State of New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Rhinebeck Little League Baseball program.
