LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Winnak-
ee Land Trust

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those organizations dedicated to increasing public awareness
of, and appreciation for, the natural resources of New York, recognizing
the role all citizens have in protecting the environment and the quality
of life in this Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 25th Anniversary of the Winnakee Land Trust; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1989 and accredited in 2011 by the National Land
Trust Accreditation Commission, Winnakee has permanently protected thou-
sands of acres of farmland and natural habitats in northern Dutchess
County, and offers many parks and trails; and
WHEREAS, The Winnakee Land Trust features an active board of volun-
teers including those focused on finance, planning, and biology and is
run by Executive Director Lucy Hayden; and
WHEREAS, At the heart of the Winnakee's mission is a deep regard for
the history and natural beauty of northern Dutchess County; and
WHEREAS, The Winnakee Land Trust not only protects farmland and
natural habitats from development, but provides public recreational
opportunities through its two parks -- Burger Hill in Rhinebeck and
Winnakee Nature Preserve in Hyde Park; and
WHEREAS, The Winnakee Land Trust hosts several educational and volun-
teer opportunities throughout the year, focusing on bringing communities
that share the beautiful Hudson Valley landscapes together; and
WHEREAS, As a result of the diligent efforts of the Winnakee Land
Trust, northern Dutchess County remains a region abounding with the
varied and beautiful landscapes that give it its distinctive sense of
place, remaining an attractive place in which to live, work, and raise a
family; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon all citizens to recognize and applaud
the efforts of organizations such as the Winnakee Land Trust that work
tirelessly on behalf of protecting our natural surroundings for the
benefit of present and future generations of New Yorkers; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Winnakee Land Trust; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Winnakee Land Trust.
