LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation
upon the occasion of celebrating its 10th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation upon the occasion of celebrating
its 10th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Established in 2004, Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation
is a non-profit organization with a mission to fund support services and
outreach for people affected by breast cancer within the eight counties
of New York's Hudson Valley; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed foundation was started by Dana Effron and Cathy
Varunok, two community advocates who saw a need for increased services
for people with breast cancer; after raising money for national breast
cancer organizations for many years, they decided to focus their
fundraising efforts on helping their friends and neighbors locally; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Executive Director, Pari Forood,
Miles of Hope has organized numerous community fundraisers including,
the Hoops for Hope Women's Basketball Tournament, the Miles of Hope
Spring Brunch, the Goals for Hope Women's Soccer Tournament and the
Community Breast Cancer Walk in James Baird State Park; and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission, Miles of Hope has
demonstrated the value of continuing the fight against breast cancer;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and associations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation upon the occasion of
celebrating its 10th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
