LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Mid-
Hudson Children's Museum

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is also the sense of this Legislative Body that the quali-
ty of life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched
by its exceptional cultural, educational and recreational institutions;
these institutions give positive definition to the profile and disposi-
tion of the communities of the State of New York and profoundly
strengthen our society with their commitment; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 25th Anniversary of the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated with a Kick Off to
Summer Event on Friday, June 27, 2014, followed by a Power Up for Kids
Anniversary Party on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at the Mid-Hudson Chil-
dren's Museum and Pavilion on the Hudson, Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum (MHCM) is to
empower young children and their families, with the vision to create a
community in which each and every child develops curiosity, confidence
and self-worth; and
WHEREAS, The Museum is located in the heart of the historic Hudson
Riverfront in Poughkeepsie, New York, just steps away from the Pough-
keepsie Metro-North train station, the Walkway Over the Hudson, fabulous
restaurants and a revitalized city waterfront park; and
WHEREAS, The Mid-Hudson Children's Museum is the ideal destination for
families with young children; with exhibits that focus on nature,
science, literacy, art, music and the local community, the museum
provides an educationally rich environment through which children have
the opportunity to develop foundational skills, to engage in purposeful
play, and to develop interpersonal connections; and
WHEREAS, MHCM exhibits and programs get kids moving, exploring, build-
ing, pretending, collaborating, creating and discovering; key museum
programs include playgroup workshops, summer camp, StarLab Planetarium
shows and birthday parties; and
WHEREAS, The museum is a popular field trip destination for preschool,
pre-K, and early elementary grades, and offers outreach programs to
local schools, libraries and community centers; it also hosts many
special events throughout the year from festive holiday celebrations, to
art, music and cultural programs; and
WHEREAS, In the fall of 2012, the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum was
selected by the editors of HUDSON VALLEY MAGAZINE as one of its "2012
Best" in recognition of its Family Free Nights every third Saturday of
each month; the Museum was also named as Hudson Valley Parent's Tops in
Travel award winner for "Places to Learn"; and
WHEREAS, The Mid-Hudson Children's Museum is a not-for-profit educa-
tional organization and is a member of both the Association of Science-
Technology Centers (ASTC) and the Association of Children's Museums
(ACM); and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Mid-Hudson
Children's Museum; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum, Poughkeepsie, New York.
