LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Pitcher Jeffrey R. Hoffman upon the
occasion of being drafted in the first round of the 2014 Major League
Baseball Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those exemplary athletes who excel in professional athletics, distin-
guishing themselves through notable achievements and representing the
great Empire State with pride and determination; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jeffrey R. Hoffman upon the occasion of being drafted in the first round
of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Shaker High School in Latham, New York, and a
Junior at East Carolina University, Jeffrey R. "Jeff" Hoffman was
selected ninth overall as a pitcher by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2014
Major League Baseball Draft; and
WHEREAS, In the 2014 season, Jeff Hoffman led his squad with eight
quality starts, striking out six or more batters in seven outings, while
limiting opposing hitters to a .216 composite batting average; and
WHEREAS, This talented student-athlete achieved double digit strike-
out totals against Middle Tennessee (16) and Western Kentucky University
(14), earning him Player of the Week honors from both C-USA and Louis-
ville Slugger; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Jeff Hoffman displayed tremendous ability while
playing with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the Cape Cod Baseball League
(CCBL) in the summer of 2013; he was named the Robert A. McNeese Award
Winner for Outstanding Pro Prospect in CCBL, and was selected to a
second straight All-Star squad; and
WHEREAS, With his selection by the Toronto Blue Jays as the ninth
overall pick, Jeff Hoffman becomes the highest drafted student-athlete
in East Carolina University history; and
WHEREAS, Regarded as a top prospect, Jeff Hoffman was also rated the
No.2 overall prospect by BASEBALL AMERICA and the Top Breakout Player in
2014 by PERFECT GAME; and
WHEREAS, A gifted athlete, he has become a role model in the sport of
baseball; his character and achievements stand as a sterling example and
inspiration to all who would aspire to success; and
WHEREAS, The auspicious occasion of his selection in the first round
of the Major League Baseball Draft provides a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to honor Jeff Hoffman for his extraordinary
athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill, dedication
and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jeffrey R. Hoffman upon the occasion of being drafted by the
Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball Team; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jeffrey R. Hoffman.
