LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joanna Coles upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by Champions of Choice, April 30,
2014

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joanna Coles
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by Cham-
pions of Choice at its Awards Luncheon, held on April 30, 014, at 583
Park Avenue, New York City; Felicia Taylor, International Anchor and
Correspondent will serve as this year's Emcee; and
WHEREAS, COSMOPOLITAN is the ultimate guide and cheerleader for
millions of fun, fearless females who want to be the best they can be in
every area of their lives; COSMOPOLITAN inspires with information about
every aspect of women's lives, including their health and well-being;
and
WHEREAS, With 61 international editions, in addition to the U.S.
flagship, COSMOPOLITAN is the world's largest women's magazine reaching
18 million readers in the U.S. each month and more than 100 million
worldwide; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Coles, COSMOPOLITAN'S editor-in-chief since September
2012, has spent the past year-and-a-half reclaiming its stake in the
culture as the ultimate, empowering monthly must-read for young women
leading full lives; and
WHEREAS, Partnering with other high-powered women in media, finance,
technology, and politics, Joanna Coles has broadened COSMOPOLITAN'S
content to dig deep into the world of politics, health, careers, and
equality; and
WHEREAS, Previously, Joanna Coles had been editor-in-chief of MARIE
CLAIRE, where she transformed the brand's editorial direction, boosting
both circulation and advertising to new heights; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure at Hearst Magazines, Joanna Coles has been
widely recognized for her leadership in the world of journalism, includ-
ing being named one of the most powerful magazine editors by FORBES and
earning the coveted title of ADWEEK'S "Editor of the Year" in 2011 and
2013; in addition, she was named by POLITICO MAGAZINE as one of 50
influencers to watch in 2013; and
WHEREAS, For the past two years, Joanna Coles has rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to COSMOPOLITAN; in her capacity as
Editor-in-Chief, she has served with loyalty, honor and distinction,
earning the admiration, esteem and affection of her colleagues; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joanna Coles upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Champions of Choice; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joanna Coles.
