LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Maa Sa Akhi Performing Arts Academy
upon the occasion of hosting its 15th Annual Recital on June 18, 2014

WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form depicted, are central to human
expression; they are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and understanding among all peoples
cannot be underestimated; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
those events which serve to enhance the cultural enrichment of the State
of New York and preserve the heritage of African Americans; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Maa Sa Akhi Performing Arts Academy upon the occasion of hosting its
15th Annual Recital on Sunday, June 18, 2014, at the Public School 249
Auditorium, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Maa Sa Akhi (MSA) Performing Arts Academy is a privately
funded Educational Not For Profit Organization that provides music
lessons to children in the Brooklyn area; and
WHEREAS, Committed to giving back to its community, MSA helps students
with their homework, offers nutritional advice to families and provides
work/study opportunities for teens; in addition, MSA has made signif-
icant donations in scholarships and grants for young people; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, MSA will be releasing its first CD composed of
original songs by Mut (Mother) Hefen; students ranging in age from pre-
school through their teens will perform music on piano, guitar, bass,
drums and voice; and
WHEREAS, MSA's Annual Recital is a cherished event which provides a
uniquely warm and safe environment in which to enjoy the music, arts,
colors, laughter and love of African American culture with family and
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Maa Sa Akhi Performing Arts Academy upon the occasion of hosting
its 15th Annual Recital; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Maa Sa Akhi Performing Arts Academy.
