LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Brigh-
ton Town Hall on July 27, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor and commem-
orate the proud and distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of the Brighton Town Hall, to be celebrated
on Sunday, July 27, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The town of Brighton is located in the southern part of
Franklin County in northern New York; and
WHEREAS, In November of 1858 Brighton was separated from the Town of
Duane, and of the 8,340 square miles of the town, 40% is state owned;
much of the land is forested, with the exception of the farmland; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Brighton, New York is comprised of many lakes
including Osgood, Lower St. Regis, Spitfire, Upper St. Regis, Specta-
cles, Barnum, Mountain, Jones, and part of Rainbow Lake; the St. Regis
River begins at Lower St. Regis Lake; and
WHEREAS, Brighton's shingle-style Town Hall, the heart of its town
justice system and governance, was designed by Brighton's own Ben Muncil
in 1914; it has remained the heart of its town government for 100 years;
and
WHEREAS, Over the past century, Brighton's original Town Hall building
has withstood the Adirondack climate in fairly good condition, and in
2003, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, Following this momentous occasion the Town of Brighton
received awards to facilitate the Town Hall restoration from the New
York State Council on the Arts Architecture, Planning and Design
Program, and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic
Preservation; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, countless donations were also received from
numerous residents and friends of the Town of Brighton; and
WHEREAS, Due to the generous outpouring of help, Brighton Town Hall
has had extensive renovation to the stairs, stonework, floor, ceiling,
heating system, windows, and meeting area; the Townspeople will no doubt
continue to care for "The People's House" on into the future; and
WHEREAS, Of historic origin, and remaining fruitful over the ebb and
flow of decades of growth and change, the Town of Brighton continues to
provide the quintessential quality of life for its residents; and
WHEREAS, The residents of Brighton, New York have a bright outlook for
the future of their community, which remains a beautiful place in which
to live and raise a family; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of Brighton's rich history and enduring
contribution to the State of New York, this Legislative Body is proud to
pay tribute to its spirited Town Hall upon the occasion of its 100th
Anniversary; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Brighton, New York Town Hall,
recognizing the significance of the role it continues to play in the
life of its community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Brighton Town Hall.
