LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Ashville Volunteer Fire Department
upon the occasion of its 100th Anniversary
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor fire departments and their members who have exhibited great dedi-
cation, courage, and selflessness in protecting their neighbors from
fire and other disasters in this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Ashville Volunteer Fire Department upon the occasion of its 100th Anni-
versary; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of the "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great State's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, The Ashville Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1914;
and
WHEREAS, The first pumper for the Ashville Volunteer Fire Department
was purchased in 1914, from the Cherry Creek Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, The Ashville Volunteer Fire Department's first fire station
was built in Ashville, New York; a second station was built in Stow, New
York, in the early 1950s; and
WHEREAS, The Ashville Volunteer Fire Department currently covers 42
square miles; its crew consists of 45 dedicated men and women; and
WHEREAS, Over the past few years, the Ashville Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment has built a new fire station and helipad of which the Department
members are extremely proud; and
WHEREAS, The Department's active members, with a focus on community
service, provide vital services to their beloved community; the volun-
teers who dedicate their time to the Department are the first to respond
to fires, accidents, storm damage, ambulance calls and other emergen-
cies; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others, and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize distinguished fire companies which have achieved notable success in
protecting lives and property over the course of their long histories in
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Ashville Volunteer Fire Department upon the occasion of its
100th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Ashville Volunteer Fire Department.
