LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Meredith L. Henderson upon the occa-
sion of her designation for special recognition by Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Meredith L. Henderson upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., to be celebrated on
Saturday, August 9, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Meredith L. Henderson has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Meredith L. Henderson, is a 29-year member of Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, and was initiated in the Omicron Nu Omega Chapter in
1985; she is a proud member of Delta Mu Omega Chapter in Albany, New
York, where she has served as Basileus, Epistoleus, Scholarship Chairman
and most notably Graduate Advisor; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Union College and Binghamton University, this
esteemed woman is the Chief of Staff in the New York State Senate where
she is responsible for overall Management Administration and Operations
in Albany and Southeast Queens; and
WHEREAS, Previously, Meredith L. Henderson served as the Deputy Secre-
tary for the President/Majority Leader of the New York State Senate
where she was the first African-American and first woman appointed in
the position; furthermore, she was also the Deputy Secretary to the
Minority Leader of the New York State Senate and the Director of Human
Resources and Special Assistant; and
WHEREAS, Meredith L. Henderson has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Committed to giving back to her community, Meredith L.
Henderson is a former trustee of the New Covenant Charter School in
Albany and is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the
NAACP of Albany; in addition, she has also served as President of the
Urban League Guild and is very involved in "Get Out the Vote" efforts on
all levels; and
WHEREAS, After a successful win at the 2014 Northeast Regional Confer-
ence, Meredith L. Henderson will now enter her term of office as the
33rd North Atlantic Regional Director; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Meredith L. Henderson has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which this remarkable woman has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Meredith L. Henderson upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Meredith L. Henderson.
