LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Chuck Myers upon the occasion of cele-
brating 66 years of distinguished volunteer service to the American
Legion Ambulance Service

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who give
outstanding service to the people of the Empire State and whose extraor-
dinary achievements save the lives of their fellow citizens should be
recognized because their efforts so profoundly strengthen our shared
commitment to family and community life; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Chuck Myers
upon the occasion of celebrating 66 years of distinguished volunteer
service to the American Legion Ambulance Service; this momentous occa-
sion was celebrated at the Catskill Regional Medical Center Foundation's
EMS Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 23, 2014, at the Villa
Roma Resort and Conference Center, Callicoon, New York; and
WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and
organizations that provide exemplary service, whether through partic-
ipation in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement in
their profession or other endeavors, or through a lifetime of good citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, A true leader, Chuck Myers is defined by his caring and
giving nature; with dedication, commitment, bravery, loyalty and self-
lessness, he has served the American Legion Ambulance Service for more
than six decades; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1926, Chuck Myers moved to his present home in
Eldred, New York, when he was just three years old; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating from high school in 1943, Chuck Myers
enlisted in the United States Army, completing a specialized training
program at Harvard University before being sent to Germany and honorably
serving in the reserves until 1946; and
WHEREAS, In 1948, Chuck Myers and fellow veterans established the
American Legion Ambulance Service (ALAS), during which time they
purchased a 1936 Packard, the organization's first ambulance; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of its Captain, Chuck Myers, the
American Legion Ambulance Service provides Advanced Life Support to the
Town of Highland in Sullivan County, New York; the all-volunteer organ-
ization is committed to providing emergency medical service with care
and compassion for its community, friends and neighbors with pride,
proficiency and professionalism; and
WHEREAS, During the 1950s, Chuck Myers worked for Metropolitan Life
Insurance, then spent 33 years with the Sullivan County Highway Depart-
ment, which later became the Department of Public Works (DPW); before
retiring in 1986, he served as Commissioner of the SCDPW for three
years; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife of 67 years,
Ruth, and their wonderful son, Robert, both of whom feel privileged to
be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude to
those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life is
a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility their own by
serving as Emergency Medical Service volunteers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Chuck Myers upon the occasion of celebrating 66 years of distin-
guished volunteer service to the American Legion Ambulance Service; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chuck Myers.
