LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Col. Dane D. Rideout upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of distinguished military service to
the United States Army

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to honor and acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives, military service and civic endeav-
ors serve to enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who dedicate their lives to military service
merit the commendation and applause of all citizens for their commitment
to the preservation of American freedom; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Col. Dane D.
Rideout upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of distin-
guished military service to the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Col. Dane D. Rideout will be stepping down as United States
Army Garrison Commander at a Change of Command Ceremony at West Point on
Thursday, July 10, 2014; he will be retiring from the United States Army
on November 1, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Col. Dane D. Rideout graduated from Ball State University in
1990, and enlisted as a member of the United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division,
Republic of Korea where he served admirably in various company and
battalion level positions; following his service in Korea, he was
assigned to 9th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell,
Kentucky, where he served as an 5-3 Air and Battalion S-1 before assum-
ing command of a UH-60 Company; and
WHEREAS, Upon completion of his command in 1997, Col. Dane D. Rideout
was assigned to the USMA, Department of Military Instruction as the
Chief of Cadet Advanced Training and later helped with the Simon Center
for the Professional Military Ethic; and
WHEREAS, In November of 2002, Col. Dane D. Rideout deployed as the J-1
for Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force and by early 2003 was
on the ground in Northern Iraq supporting combat operations across the
Iraq northern front; and
WHEREAS, Col. Dane D. Rideout was next selected to serve as the J-1
for Special Operations Command Europe, in Stuttgart, Germany; while
assigned, he deployed in support of counter terrorist operations for the
Summer Olympics in Greece and directed HR operations for Operation
Enduring Freedom-Trans Sahara in Northern Africa; and
WHEREAS, After a short tour as the Deputy of the 14th Human Resources
Sustainment Center, Col. Dane D, Rideout was assigned to the 82nd
Airborne Division as the Division G-1; he deployed with the Division to
Afghanistan as the CJTF-82/Regional Command East J-1, where he was
responsible for the planning, coordination and synchronization of all
Human Resource assets; following this deployment, he then was posted to
his most recent overseas assignment as the G-1 for the United States
Army Special Operations Command; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and honors during his mili-
tary career, Col. Dane D. Rideout has been decorated with the Bronze
Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and Meritorious Service
Medal; in addition, he is a senior rated Aviator, Airborne and Air
Assault qualified; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his military career, including his time as United
States Army Garrison Commander at West Point, Col. Dane D. Rideout
served with loyalty, honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Col. Dane D. Rideout was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems;

his exemplary leadership earned him the admiration, esteem and affection
of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved with great respect and rever-
ent esteem to renew its tribute to the men and women who so courageously
serve and defend this great nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Col. Dane D. Rideout upon the occasion of his retirement after
many years of distinguished military service to the United States Army;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Col. Dane D. Rideout.
