LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending James R. Sherin upon the occasion of
his retirement after 30 years of distinguished service to the Retail
Council of New York State

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
James R. Sherin upon the occasion of his retirement after 30 years of
dedicated service to the Retail Council of New York State; and
WHEREAS, James R. Sherin joined the Retail Council of New York State
as the Director of Government Relations in 1984, and was promoted to
Senior Vice President in 1990; he was named Chief Operating Officer in
2000 and became President and Chief Executive Officer in 2003; and
WHEREAS, James R. Sherin is also Chairman of the Board and President
of Retail Council Services Corp., the wholly owned subsidiary of the
Retail Council of New York State; furthermore, he serves on the New York
State Department of Taxation and Finance's Taxpayer Advisory Council and
is past Chairman of the Board of the Council of State Retail Associ-
ations; and
WHEREAS, For the past three decades, James R. Sherin has served as an
effective and dedicated leader who has managed the daily operations of
the Council, including its government relations, member services
programs, and other business affairs; and
WHEREAS, Greatly respected by all those with whom he has worked, both
in New York State and throughout the nation, James R. Sherin will be
remembered by his peers in the retail industry for his integrity, hones-
ty and ability to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of the indus-
try he dutifully represented for so many years; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble accomplishments are brought to our attention, they
should be celebrated and recognized by all of the citizens of this great
State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend James R. Sherin upon the occasion of his retirement after 30
years of distinguished service to the Retail Council of New York State;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James R. Sherin.
