LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 127th anniversary of the Alpha
Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star in the fall of 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 127th anniversary of the Alpha Chapter No. 1, Order of the
Eastern Star in the Fall of 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Alpha Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star is a
community based charitable organization with a mission of providing
cultural enrichment, education and information and a framework for self-
empowerment; and
WHEREAS, The Order of The Eastern Star is the largest Fraternal Organ-
ization in the world to which both women and men can belong; its objects
and purposes are the cultivation of charitable and fraternal practices
and an obligation to aid and assist fellow members in time of need; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the principles of charity, truth and loving
kindness, the Alpha Chapter No. 1, Order of Eastern Star, provides
donations to numerous causes throughout the State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed organization was granted a warrant in 1894 by
the Royal Arch Masons under which it operated until 1919 when Mrs.
Hattie Brown, Grand Worthy Matron, called in all the Royal Arch seals
and issued new ones under the seal of Eureka Grand Chapter; and
WHEREAS, Today, Alpha Chapter No. 1 has the distinction of being the
oldest Eastern Star Chapter in the United States, as it celebrates its
127th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of its Worthy Matron, Sister Feli-
cia G. Watson, Alpha Chapter No. 1 is poised to continue its tradition
of service far into the future; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 127th anniversary of the Alpha Chapter No. 1, Order of
the Eastern Star; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sister Felicia G. Watson, Worthy Matron of Alpha Chapter No.
1, Order of the Eastern Star.
