LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Westhill Boys Varsity Basket-
ball Team upon the occasion of winning the 2014 Class B Federation Tour-
nament Title
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive team sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, strong teamwork, and a dedi-
cated coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young people within our community, who, by achieving outstanding success
in athletic competition, have inspired and brought pride to their school
district and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and developing a sense
of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Westhill Boys Varsity Basketball Team upon the occasion of
winning the 2014 Class B Federation Tournament title; and
WHEREAS, The perfect regular season record posted by the Westhill Boys
Varsity Basketball Team earned the players a bye in the Section III,
Class B Boys Basketball Tournament; and
WHEREAS, During the semifinal game of the Section III, Class B Boys
Basketball Tournament, the Westhill Boys Varsity Basketball Team
defeated Ogdensburg Free Academy (74-67) to advance to the State champi-
onship tournament; and
WHEREAS, The Westhill Boys Varsity Basketball Team captured the State
Championship after beating the Olean Huskies (93-55) during the Class B
State Final at Glens Falls Civic Center on Saturday, March 15, 2014; the
victory secured the team No.1 in the State rankings with an overall
record of (25-0), and marked the third Class B State Championship for
Westhill Boys Basketball in the school's history; and
WHEREAS, The State Championship win advances the Westhill Boys Varsity
Basketball Team to the Class B Federation Tournament of Champions,
located at the Times Union Center on March 23, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Westhill Boys Varsity Basketball Team played strong and
determined and reigned victorious, wrapping up a perfect season with a
65-46 win over Regis High School of New York City to secure the Class B
Federation Tournament title; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the outstanding players of the
Westhill Boys Varsity Basketball Team proved to be an unbeatable combi-
nation of talents, reflecting favorably on their school and the entire
Westhill Central School District; and
WHEREAS, The impressive athletic talent displayed by the Westhill Boys
Varsity Basketball Team is due in great part to the efforts of Head
Coach Kevin King, who helped develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the Westhill Boys Varsity Basketball 2013-2014
season, members of the team were loyally and enthusiastically supported
by family, friends and fans throughout the entire community; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Westhill Boys Varsity Basketball Team rallied
behind one another in establishing a brotherhood of athletic ability and
good sportsmanship, demonstrating that these team players are second to
none; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Westhill Boys Varsity Basketball Team, its members:
Ryan Roland, Billy Billy, Mike Burton, Andrew French, Steven Bailey,
Jordan Roland, Dan O'Connell, Jack Centore, Chase Gedney, Tyler
Reynolds, Jeff Lobello, Ryan Obrist, and Brian Daily, and Coach Kevin
King on their outstanding season and overall team record; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the Westhill Boys Varsity Basketball Team, and
Head Coach Kevin King.
