LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Lisa Sandler upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Going Green Award by the Volunteer
Center of the United Way

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Lisa Sandler has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Lisa Sandler
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Going Green
Award by the Volunteer Center of the United Way; she will be honored at
the 34th Annual Volunteer Spirit Awards Breakfast Celebration, on Thurs-
day, April 24, 2014, at the Doubletree Hilton in Tarrytown, New York;
and
WHEREAS, The Volunteer Center of the United Way is a one-stop resource
devoted to increasing volunteerism in Westchester County and its
surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Rye, New York, Lisa Sandler is being recognized
for her distinguished volunteer leadership and stewardship of the Rye
Nature Center; and
WHEREAS, Since Lisa Sandler's arrival at the Rye Nature Center in 2002
as part of her search for a summer camp for her then three-year-old son,
this dedicated woman has been an active and essential member of the
treasured local nature preserve, committed to advancing its goal to
promote environmental education and conservation throughout the communi-
ty; and
WHEREAS, Lisa Sandler was instrumental in helping the Rye Nature
Center survive after the loss of a key funding source; her creativity
and astute fiduciary oversight, in addition to her optimism and determi-
nation, not only inspired others, but allowed for creative problem-solv-
ing and subsequent stability; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as president of Friends of Rye Nature Center,
Lisa Sandler was a revitalizing force, supporting the renovation of the
Rye Nature Center's visitor center with new playgrounds and a weekly
preschool ecology partnership, and doubling the number of camp scholar-
ships available at the Nature Center for New York City's poorest urban
communities; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Lisa Sandler has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Lisa Sandler has displayed through-
out her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Lisa Sandler upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Going Green Award by the Volunteer Center of the United Way; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lisa Sandler.
