LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Dr. James O. Jackson for his highly
valued and distinguished service as a member of the New York State Board
of Regents

WHEREAS, Individuals who distinguish themselves in their profession, in
service to their community, and in pursuit of excellence in the educa-
tion of the youth of the Empire State merit the highest commendation of
this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is proud to commend Dr.
James O. Jackson for his highly valued and distinguished service as a
member of the New York State Board of Regents; and
WHEREAS, Dr. James O. Jackson was elected by a joint session of the
New York State Legislature to the Board of Regents for a three year term
effective March 8, 2011, representing the seven counties of the Third
Judicial District; and
WHEREAS, Regent Jackson graduated from the R.B. Hudson High School in
Selma, Alabama, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from
Geneva College, a Master's Degree in History and Political Science from
the College of Saint Rose, and a Ph.D. in American History, Adminis-
tration, Curriculum and Supervision from Northwestern University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson was employed in the North Colonie Central School
District from 1963 until 2006; he taught science for 16 years at The
Shaker High School, served as the Science Department Supervisor for 12
years, and served as Principal for over 14 years; and
WHEREAS, In 1998, Regent Jackson was selected by the Capital Area
School Development Association (CASDA) as High School Principal of the
Year; and
WHEREAS, The North Colonie Central School District named Regent Jack-
son Principal Emeritus in 2006, the only individual in the 62 year
history of the school district to hold an emeritus title; and
WHEREAS, Regent Jackson is a Ford Foundation and Northwestern Univer-
sity Fellow, and a William Randolph Hearst Scholar; his program of
systemic advocacy for all students was supported by the innovative Inte-
grated Regents Program, Career Intern Exploration Program, Personal
Improvement Intervention Program as well as Academic Intervention
Services - all of which in combination served to re-establish Shaker
High School as an All Regents High School increasing Regents Diplomas
from 66% to 96.6%; and
WHEREAS, Regent Jackson has lectured at numerous colleges, consulted
with the New York State Education Department, and served as a Regents
examiner; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he is a prolific published author and is a
member the University at Albany Council, and a former member of the
Albany Medical Center Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Rose J. Jackson Ph.D.
and their son, Christian Sterling Jackson M.D., both of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to recognize the contrib-
utions of Regent Jackson to education in the State of New York, helping
to establish standards other states seek to emulate and to ensure all of
New York's students receive an education leading to responsible citizen-
ship and worthy endeavor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. James O. Jackson for his highly valued and distinguished
service as a member of the New York State Board of Regents; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. James O. Jackson.
