LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Hannah and Walter Shmerler upon the
occasion of their designation for special recognition by The Performing
Arts Center, Purchase College, SUNY

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Hannah and Walter Shmerler have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Hannah and
Walter Shmerler upon the occasion of their designation for special
recognition by The Performing Arts Center, Purchase College, SUNY; they
will be celebrated at its 2014 Gala, the Snazzy Bash, on Saturday, May
3, 2014, to be held at The PAC, in Purchase, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Performing Arts Center, (The PAC), Purchase College, is
the major professional, non-profit arts presenter in the Southeastern
New York--Southwestern Connecticut region, and the largest program in
the State University of New York system; and
WHEREAS, Hannah and Walter Shmerler, residents of Rye, New York, are
being recognized for their tremendous 34-year support of and involvement
with The PAC; and
WHEREAS, Hannah Shmerler serves on the Board of The Performing Arts
Center Foundation; she began her involvement with The PAC as a volunteer
in 1980, and has played important roles in the Arts-in-Education
outreach program for school children, has chaired various committees,
and has been president of The Prompters, The Performing Arts Center's
volunteer organization; she is also co-chair of the College's Friends of
Music, an organization of the Conservatory of Music; and
WHEREAS, Hannah and Walter Shmerler's generous philanthropic support
of The Performing Arts Center includes their endowment of Master Classes
for Music and Dance Conservatory students in collaboration with The
Performing Arts Center; and
WHEREAS, This magnanimous couple's love and support for the arts has
been recognized by others; they are the recipients of ArtsWestchester's
2014 Arts Award for Arts Patrons; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Hannah and Walter Shmerler have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Hannah and Walter Shmerler have
displayed throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Hannah and Walter Shmerler upon the occasion of their desig-
nation for special recognition by The Performing Arts Center; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Hannah and Walter Shmerler.
