LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the United
Way of Long Island on May 7, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations within the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of the United Way of Long Island, to be cele-
brated at a Luncheon on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Crest Hollow
Country Club, Woodbury, New York; and
WHEREAS, For five decades, the United Way of Long Island has created
opportunities for a better life for all individuals by focusing on the
three key building blocks of education, financial stability and health;
and
WHEREAS, The United Way of Long Island is a charitable non-profit
organization run by an independent volunteer board of directors; this
illustrious organization has a four-star rating by Charity Navigator for
its operational efficiency and has received this honor for the second
consecutive year; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1964, to serving a population of more
than 3 million people in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the United Way of
Long Island continues to embrace its core values and mission to address
the root causes of community concerns by aligning resources to best meet
the needs of individuals, children and families; and
WHEREAS, By bringing people together from neighborhoods, government,
labor, business, faith groups, non-profits and schools to tackle commu-
nity issues, the United Way of Long Island is helping children graduate,
guiding families towards financial stability and creating opportunities
for people to live healthy vibrant lives; and
WHEREAS, The success enjoyed by the United Way of Long Island is in
direct correlation to the efforts of the many individuals who have
supported the development of this outstanding organization over the
years; and
WHEREAS, Equally commendable are the superbly-skilled staff at the
United Way of Long Island, whose involvement is and has always been
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all of their efforts on
behalf of the organization and the population it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the United Way of Long Island; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the United Way of Long Island, Deer Park, New York.
