LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chet and Donna French upon the occasion
of their designation as recipients of the 2014 Good Neighbor Award by
the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State with
their strong contributions to the community and model citizenship; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Chet and Donna
French upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of the 2014
Good Neighbor Award by the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce, celebrated at
its annual dinner on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the Unadilla United
Methodist Church, Unadilla, New York; and
WHEREAS, Chet and Donna French are known for their generosity, kind-
ness and constant willingness to help their neighbors; they are always
among the first to respond to a need in their community; and
WHEREAS, Chet French retired from the Unadilla Village Department of
Public Works in 2005, and now devotes much of his time to helping
others; he has been a member of the Unadilla Fire Department for 40
years, and is a past member of the department's emergency squad; and
WHEREAS, After the disastrous flooding in 2005 and 2011, this esteemed
man was among the volunteers who worked hard, pumping out cellars and
helping with general clean up in the village; and
WHEREAS, Always ready to help a neighbor, Chet French recently built
an access ramp for a gentleman who required easier access to his home;
and
WHEREAS, Equally commendable is Donna French, a 38-year member of the
Unadilla Fire Department women's auxiliary, who has served as group
president for the past ten years; and
WHEREAS, A former school aide and a present clerk of the Town of
Unadilla, Donna French was among the volunteers who assisted her commu-
nity after the floods; in addition; she is known for her work lovingly
helping the elderly in her town; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman embodies the spirit of helping people
whenever possible without the expectation of anything in return; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Chet and Donna French and to wish
them continued success in all of their future endeavors; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chet and Donna French upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the 2014 Good Neighbor Award by the Unadilla Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chet and Donna French.
