LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Donald E. DuBois upon the occasion of
being selected as the New York State 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Donald E.
DuBois upon the occasion of being selected as the New York State 2014
Senior Citizen of the Year in recognition of his outstanding contrib-
utions to his community through his valuable and much appreciated volun-
teer work; and
WHEREAS, Donald E. DuBois has lived in Shokan, New York, for 95 of his
100 years of life; he graduated from Kingston High School in 1936, and
worked at De Laval Separator Works in Poughkeepsie, New York, from 1942
until his retirement in 1969; and
WHEREAS, Through his worthy life, he has been devoted to his family of
three children, John, Laurie, and Lana, seven grandchildren, and three
great-grandchildren in addition to his beloved wife, Bessie, who passed
away in 2012 after 73 years of marriage; and
WHEREAS, Donald and his wife, Bessie, also housed and cared for many
foster children in their time together; and
WHEREAS, Donald E. DuBois built a machine shop for himself after he
retired, and his shop is the site of much of his community service; this
accomplished man volunteers for the internationally known PET Mobility
Project, cutting lumber for the construction of "Personal Energy Trans-
portation" vehicles for individuals in Third World countries who cannot
walk due to disease, bombs, accidents, or birth defects; and
WHEREAS, Donald holds three patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark
Office for his unique ideas and inventions; and
WHEREAS, A man of faith, Donald E. DuBois is a member of Reservoir
United Methodist Church in Shokan; he has devoted himself to the church
his entire life, and has taught Sunday School and led Bible study since
he was 20 years old; and
WHEREAS, In his spare time, he loves to write and has published four
books filled with essays, poetry, homilies, limericks, and observations
on life; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Donald E. DuBois's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Donald E. DuBois upon the occasion of being selected as the New
York State 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Donald E. DuBois.
