LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 83rd Anniversary of Madison
Jewish Center of Brooklyn, New York, to be celebrated June 8, 2014
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in New York State is greatly
enriched by its religious institutions and the faithful and generous
service of those who devote themselves to endeavors of family, faith,
and community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend institutions of such magnanimous conduct and bearing which
demonstrate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
commemorate the 83rd Anniversary of Madison Jewish Center; this auspi-
cious occasion will be celebrated on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at the Madi-
son Jewish Center in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1931, Madison Jewish Center (MJC) is located
in the heart of Brooklyn in the Madison neighborhood; for 83 years, it
has proudly served the Madison, Marine Park, Sheepshead Bay and Midwood
communities; and
WHEREAS, An Egalitarian Conservative congregation affiliated with The
United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, this esteemed organization
offers a variety of programs for its congregants with a goal of creating
a warm, comfortable environment for all; and
WHEREAS, Each year at its Anniversary Journal Celebration, MJC proudly
honors members in recognition of their enduring and outstanding service
to the synagogue; this year's honorees include: Roberta and The Honor-
able Ira B. Harkavy, Arlene Kane, and Andrew Menkes; and
WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Madison Jewish Center stands on the threshold of tomorrow,
prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while retaining
that spiritual resolve which it has embodied for over eight decades; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 83rd Anniversary of Madison Jewish Center; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Madison Jewish Center.
