LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the found-
ing of the Woodhull Raceway on April 19, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and
character of life in the State of New York has been greatly enhanced by
the presence of certain extraordinary recreational facilities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concerns, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Woodhull Raceway which
was celebrated on Saturday, April 19, 2014, in Woodhull, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1964, the Woodhull Raceway was first opened by owner
George Williams, who with the help of his two sons, Jim and Bob,
designed and constructed the renowned racetrack; and
WHEREAS, This year marks the 50th consecutive season of continuous
race activity at the historic Steuben County, New York facility; and
WHEREAS, The Woodhull Raceway has a unique configuration that has
appealed to generations of drivers and racing spectators alike; the
racetrack possesses long straight-a-ways and highly banked tight turns
for a "paperclip" design; and
WHEREAS, During the racetrack's illustrious history there have been
only four different owners; the Williams Family owned the facility from
1965 thru 1997, followed by Scott and Amy Drake from 1998 thru 2004;
Vern Wasson owned the racetrack from 2005 thru 2009, until it was bought
by current owner, Harrison Valley businessman, Ted White; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, the Woodhull Raceway is presenting six regular
season divisions of competition, including 370 Modifieds, 360 Late
Models, Crate Sportsman, Street Stocks, 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks and Front
Wheel Drives; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Woodhull Raceway plays host each year to a
number of outside touring groups and special events, including 360 and
410 Sprints, Super Late Models, Mid-State Vintage Antique Cars and Big
Block Modifieds; for the past three seasons, the Woodhull Raceway has
boasted an average car count of 150 per regular race event with approxi-
mately 25 cars per class; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its 50-year history, Woodhull Raceway has embodied
more than large crowds and great speed; the racing community continues
to return year after year to witness the exciting moments and unique
charms that have made this place one of the premier motorsports facili-
ties in New York State; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
important milestones of celebrated recreational institutions and to
bring such institutions to the attention of the people of this State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Woodhull Race-
way; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ted White, Owner, Woodhull Raceway.
