LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Donald Bosworth upon the occasion of his
designation as the 2014 Guilford Citizen of the Year on May 26, 2014
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Donald Bosworth has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Donald
Bosworth upon the occasion of his designation as the 2014 Guilford Citi-
zen of the Year; this momentous occasion will be celebrated at the Guil-
ford Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Donald Bosworth has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Born on February 2, 1946, in Cuba, New York, Donald Bosworth
grew up with his two siblings in Rushford and Arcade, New York; and
WHEREAS, Donald Bosworth attended the State University College at
Oneonta where he graduated in 1968; the same year, he married Ellen
Clark, and the couple moved to Guilford; and
WHEREAS, In 1968, Donald Bosworth began teaching mathematics at Bain-
bridge-Guilford High School where he remained until his retirement in
2001; in addition to math, he also taught computer programming classes
during the very early days of personal computers; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, during his tenure with Bainbridge-Guilford High
School, Donald Bosworth was also the coach of the Junior High Basketball
team, as well as an assistant with the Rifle Club; and
WHEREAS, After his retirement, Donald Bosworth joined the Guilford
Fire Department and Emergency Squad in June of 2004; he is very active
in both organizations, holding the esteemed office of Lieutenant on the
Emergency Squad; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Donald Bosworth has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Ellen, with him throughout have been
his two children, Melissa and Eric, as well as his two grandchildren,
Trevor and Bret, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life
and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Donald Bosworth has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Donald Bosworth upon the occasion of his designation as the 2014
Guilford Citizen of the Year on May 26, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Donald Bosworth.
