LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION RESOLUTION congratulating Charlie Tibbits of Team
Properly Trained upon the occasion of capturing the 2014 NUWAY Nationals
Division 3 Championship
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented
young athletes who distinguish themselves and their community through
outstanding athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
congratulate Charlie Tibbits of Team Properly Trained upon the occasion
of capturing the 2014 NUWAY Nationals Division 3 Championship held April
12-13, 2014, in Battle Creek, New York; and
WHEREAS, Charlie Tibbits, the son of Charles Tibbits and Kimberly
Scheri, is a fourth grade student at Harts Elementary School, and a
member of SAGE, a pre-advanced placement program for academically
talented students; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed young man began his wrestling career at the age
of five, winning seven tournaments in his first year and 11 tournaments
in his second year of active competition; and
WHEREAS, At the age of seven, Charlie Tibbits began traveling to major
tournaments and competing in national level events; he finished 2nd in 3
national tournaments including the Empire Brute Nationals, the Gene
Mills Eastern Nationals, and the Mid Atlantic Wrestling Association
Nationals, which earned him All-American honors; and
WHEREAS, The following year, Charlie Tibbits took first place in 23
tournaments, including his first NYWAY NY5 Championship and the Big Red
Northeast Championships; in addition, he was selected to be a member of
Team NYWAY at the NUWAY National Duels, and earned All-American Honors
at MAWA National in Maryland for the second time; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Charlie Tibbits experienced adversity, sustaining an
injury while competing at the Cliff Keen National Kickoff Tournament; a
severely dislocated elbow caused him to miss most of the season; he
persevered and recovered admirably however, winning three local tourna-
ments after his cast was removed, and finishing with 18 wins and 3 loss-
es for the season; and
WHEREAS, Charlie Tibbits has experienced his greatest success in the
2013-2014 season, compiling a record of 83 wins and 25 losses; he once
again, earned a spot on Team NYWAY and traveled to Ohio State University
for the NUWAY National Duels, where he went undefeated and earned All-
American honors; furthermore, he won his second NYWAY NYS Championship,
qualifying him for the NUWAY Individual Championships; and
WHEREAS, At the 2014 NUWAY Nationals, this remarkable athlete competed
against the top young wrestlers from across the nation, winning the
championship in the 110 pound division; and
WHEREAS, Charlie Tibbits's exemplary performance is reflective of his
dedication, determination and personal commitment; his achievements
stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families, schools and commu-
nities across New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Charlie Tibbits of Team Properly Trained upon the occasion
of capturing the 2014 NUWAY Nationals Division 3 Championship; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Charlie Tibbits.
