LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Firefighter Robert T. Jones upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition after 60 years of
dedicated service to the Sodus Point Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter Robert
T. Jones upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 60 years of dedicated service to the Sodus Point Fire Department
which was celebrated on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Dockers Seafood and
Grille in North Rose, New York; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Robert T. Jones, affectionately known as Bob,
began serving the Sodus Point Fire Department on May 13, 1954; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 13, 1934 in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, Firefighter
Robert T. Jones graduated from Hazelton High School in 1952; and
WHEREAS, A life member of the Sodus Point Fire Department, Firefighter
Robert T. Jones was previously a Commissioner of the Alton Fire Depart-
ment for 22 years; and
WHEREAS, From 1957 to 1959, Firefighter Robert T. Jones served his
country as a member of the United States Army at Fort Bragg, North Caro-
lina; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Firefighter Robert T. Jones serves as President,
Historian, and "Sunshine Person" of the Sodus Point Fire Department; he
is also active in his community by participating in Meals on Wheels; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Marilynn D., and
their five sons, Robert, Jr., Timothy, Mark, Sr., Jeffery, and Troy, all
of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Fire-
fighter Robert T. Jones is such a firefighter; throughout 60 years of
devoted service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond
the call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Robert T. Jones for 60 years of distinguished
service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Firefighter Robert T. Jones.
