LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ron Page upon the occasion of his
induction into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of
Fame

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ron
Page upon the occasion of his induction into the Schenectady City School
District Athletic Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at the 17th Annual
Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame and Reunion
Dinner on Monday, September 8, 2014, at Proctor's Theatre in Schenecta-
dy, New York; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School Class of 1969, Ron
Page lettered in three sports and was a standout athlete in football and
track during his high school playing career; and
WHEREAS, Ron Page played varsity football for three years under
Athletic Hall of Fame Coaches Larry Mulvaney and Tony Parisi; and
WHEREAS, Ron Page was an integral part of the Mont Pleasant Football
Team which went undefeated in the 1967 season and was the top ranked
team in New York State; he was named Thom McAn co-Player of the Year and
a Scholastic Coach Honorable Mention All-American that season; and
WHEREAS, In 1968, this esteemed man was selected to the All-New York
State Football Team, and was also named to the PARADE and SUNKIST All-
American Teams; in addition, he received the Glen Bennett Scholar
Athlete award; and
WHEREAS, Ron Page was also an outstanding competitor in track and
field, and was a four year member of the Mont Pleasant varsity track
team under Athletic Hall of Famer Ray Vacca; and
WHEREAS, During the 1968 track season, Ron Page captured the Section
II high and low hurdles championship titles; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, this remarkable athlete
continued to display his outstanding talents as a member of the Syracuse
University football team; on his first varsity carry, he scored on a 50
yard touchdown run and received the game ball for his efforts; further-
more, he was the second leading scorer during the 1971 season; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards for his many accomplish-
ments, Ron Page received the 2008 Zunic Award from the Syracuse football
club in honor of his exemplary courage, self-sacrifice and spirit; he
was also inducted into the Mont Pleasant Hall of Fame and Capital Region
Football Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Ron Page; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Ron Page for his
extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill,
dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to honor Ron Page upon the occasion of his induction
into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ron Page, and the Schenectady City School District Athletic
Hall of Fame.
