LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the New
York State JCI Senate

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of the New York State JCI Senate; this mile-
stone anniversary will be celebrated on Friday, May 16, 2014, at a
buffet reception held at the New York State Jaycees First Session
Convention in East Syracuse, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Junior Chamber of Commerce is an organization of young
adults, ages 18 to 40, who develop their leadership skills through
community projects; formed in 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri, the organiza-
tion has since become known as Junior Chamber International (JCI) as it
has grown to include chapters throughout the nation and the world; and
WHEREAS, The JCI Senate was established in 1952 to preserve the
connection between Jaycees who had aged-out of the organization and its
still active members; conferring lifetime membership in the JCI, a JCI
Senatorship is the highest honor which can be bestowed upon a current or
past member by Junior Chamber International, and recognizes those indi-
viduals who have given exceptional service to the organization and the
community-at-large; since its inception, more than 72,000 Jaycees world-
wide have been honored as JCI Senators; and
WHEREAS, In 1964, the New York State JCI Senate was formed, establish-
ing a network of similarly-honored individuals, as well as opportunities
for them to support the efforts of Jaycees and chapters throughout the
State; and
WHEREAS, Over the 50 years of its existence, this esteemed organiza-
tion has welcomed more than 1,200 new Senators united in a bond of
friendship and purpose, and embodying the values of faith, fellowship,
and service to humanity; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when organ-
izations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the New York State JCI Senate; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the New York State JCI Senate.
