LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Scott Blewett of C.W. Baker High School
in Baldwinsville, New York, upon the occasion of being named the 2014
Gatorade New York Baseball Player of the Year
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young individuals within our midst, who strive for athletic and academic
excellence through rigorous training and mental and physical discipline;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and developing a sense
of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor C.W.
Baker High School senior, Scott Blewett, upon the occasion of being
named Gatorade's 2014 New York Baseball Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, This special award recognizes students for their outstanding
athletic excellence, their high standards of academic achievement and
exemplary character demonstrated both on and off the field, and it
distinguishes Scott Blewett as the best high school baseball player in
New York State for the 2013-14 school year; and
WHEREAS, Scott Blewett, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound right-handed pitcher and
first baseman, is considered one of the top high school baseball pros-
pects in the country; he recently signed a national letter-of-intent to
play baseball at St. John's University; and
WHEREAS, Scott Blewett finished the overall 2014 season with an ERA of
0.23 and 50 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched; he led the Baldwinsville
Bees to a 15-5 record and a berth in the Section III tournament; and
WHEREAS, Scott Blewett's impressive overall high school career record
is 21-0; and
WHEREAS, Scott Blewett was named Class AA Player of the Year and the
Central New York Pitcher of the Year as a junior during the 2013 high
school baseball season, and he also is a Perfect Game Preseason High
School First Team All-America selection; and
WHEREAS, In addition to, and as important as his accomplishments on
the field, Scott Blewett has maintained an A minus average in the class-
room and has volunteered locally on behalf of charity road races and
youth baseball programs, as well as dedicating his time assisting elder-
ly individuals in his neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Humble in spirit, Scott Blewett always takes his successes in
stride and is quick to credit his fellow team members, as no team can
succeed without talent throughout the entire roster; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Scott Blewett upon the occasion of being named the 2014 Gatorade
New York Baseball Player of the Year, and to recognize his overall
athletic and academic achievements; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Scott Blewett.
