LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Dougla-
ston and Little Neck Historical Society
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the efforts
of those organizations which seek to bring recognition to historical
places within the State of New York, and in doing so, help to ensure
that the complete history of our State and Nation is preserved and
shared with present generations of citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 25th Anniversary of the Douglaston and Little Neck Historical
Society; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at a Silver Anni-
versary Summer Soiree on Saturday, June 21, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Douglaston and Little Neck Historical Society was estab-
lished in 1989 with a mission to publicize, preserve, and protect the
historical significance of the communities of Douglaston and Little
Neck; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed organization has admirably served the public
for 25 years, working diligently to collect, research, and disseminate
historical information; it houses an outstanding collection of photos,
maps, blueprints, drawings, and artifacts; and
WHEREAS, The Douglaston and Little Neck Historical Society helped New
York City create two new historic districts, the Douglaston Historic
District in 1997, and the Douglaston Hill Historic District in 2004;
furthermore, it assisted both districts in being added to the New York
State and National Registers of Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, Committed to historic preservation, the Society also works to
increase public awareness of the two communities' architectural signif-
icance and social history through public forums with historical speak-
ers, planners, and architects; furthermore, its Architecture Committee
provides residents with information on preserving, restoring, and sensi-
tively rebuilding their homes; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for the Douglaston and Little Neck
Historical Society, and for all of the individuals who have worked to
bring proper attention to a place which merits recognition in the grand
panorama of the history of our State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Douglaston and Little Neck
Historical Society; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Douglaston and Little Neck Historical Society.
