LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Salvatore Emmi, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Salvatore "Sam" Emmi of Auburn, New York, died on April 3,
2014, at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, Sam Emmi was born on December 18, 1926, in Auburn to the late
Louis and Filomena Spinelli Emmi; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man served his country honorably as a member of
the Merchant Marines during World War II, stationed in the U-boat
plagued waters of the North Atlantic; and
WHEREAS, Sam Emmi distinguished himself in his profession and by his
sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his
community; and
WHEREAS, For 28 years, Sam Emmi served bravely as an officer with the
Auburn Police Department; in addition, he was the owner and operator of
Emmi Realty for more than 30 years, together with his wife Lorraine; and
WHEREAS, Sam Emmi was a member of numerous civic and professional
organizations including the Auburn Police Benevolent Association, the
Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the Cayuga County Sportsman
Club, the Italian Heritage Society, the Sons of Italy and the Italian
American Club; and
WHEREAS, A talented artist, Sam Emmi's artistic abilities were
reflected in his painting, landscaping and his masonry skills which
became his legacy; he was publicly recognized for his winter holiday
snow sculptures, bringing entertainment, laughter and joy to all who had
the opportunity to witness his whimsical creations; and
WHEREAS, Sam Emmi's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of human-
ity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable
and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his three brothers, Anthony, Stephen, and
Michael; and two sisters, Josephine and Mary; Sam Emmi is survived by
his three living brothers, Frank, Alfred, and James; his three sisters,
Nancy, Rosemarie, and Rita; his loving wife Lorraine; and his three
children, Cherri, Daniel, and Marianne; as well as several grandchil-
dren; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Sam Emmi leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the
passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served
and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Salvatore Emmi, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Salvatore Emmi.
