LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rachel Garn of Marcellus High School for
being named a Division II State Champion in the steeplechase

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young individuals within our midst, who strive for athletic and academic
excellence through rigorous training and mental and physical discipline;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and developing a sense
of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor and
recognize Marcellus High School senior, Rachel Garn, upon the occasion
of being named a Division II State Champion in the 2000m steeplechase
with a time of 7:01.12, during a two day track and field meet on June 7,
2014; and
WHEREAS, Rachel Garn also was ranked 2nd in the Division II 800m with
a time of 2:13.91; and
WHEREAS, Rachel Garn currently holds school records at Marcellus High
School for outdoor track in the 800m, 1500m, 3000m, and the 2000m stee-
plechase, as well as being a member of 10th school record holding 4x800m
team; and
WHEREAS, Rachel Garn has also been selected as an All-CNY athlete for
the past two years in track, as well as for Cross-country and indoor
track; and
WHEREAS, In addition to, and as important as her accomplishments on
the track, Rachel Garn is a top student in the classroom and will be
continuing her education and running careers at Iona College; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and honor Rachel Garn upon the occasion of being a Division II
State Champion in the 2000m steeplechase, and to recognize her overall
athletic and academic achievements; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rachel Garn.
