LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the life of Thomas M. Margeit, distin-
guished citizen, and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor the life and accom-
plishments of Thomas M. Margeit, a man who dedicated his life and career
to the service and protection of others; and
WHEREAS, Thomas M. Margeit, a resident of Lodi, New York, died on
Monday, April 29, 2013, at the age of 60; and
WHEREAS, Thomas M. Margeit distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, He was born on September 26, 1952, in Elmira, New York, the
eldest son of Thomas L. and Esther (Stermer) Margeit; a graduate of
Horseheads High School and Alfred Tech, Thomas Margeit worked as a
corrections officer at Auburn Correctional Facility, where he was a
member of the CERT team; and
WHEREAS, In 1995 Thomas M. Margeit transferred to Willard Drug Treat-
ment Center where he worked as a drill instructor before retiring as the
Chief of Fire and Safety in 2009; he was also the PT Instructor at the
Fire Academy in Montour Falls for more than 10 years, working until just
prior to his passing; and
WHEREAS, Thomas M. Margeit's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Thomas M. Margeit was a proud member of the Lodi Fire Depart-
ment, joining in 1978, and serving as the Chief since 1994, which
included the Seneca County Chiefs Association; in addition, he generous-
ly lent his time and talents to the South Seneca Sportsmen's Club and
Landmark Education; and
WHEREAS, A devout Catholic, Thomas M. Margeit lived by example; he was
a loving family man, mentor and community member; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his parents, Thomas M. Margeit is survived by
his wife of 35 years, Judy; his children, Amy (Brian) Kelly and their
sons, Brayden and Liam; Michelle (Justin) Tingue and their children,
Annabelle and Zack; Jennifer (Ryan) Teeter and their daughter, Mia; a
special nephew, Robert (Roseanne) Cooper and their children, Robert and
Ruby; his siblings, Gayle (Ted) Pritchard, Wendy (Danny) Swearingen and
Terry (Julie) Margeit; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews
and his wife's extended family; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Thomas M. Margeit leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the life and accomplishments of Thomas M. Margeit, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Thomas M. Margeit.
