LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Rye High School Baseball Team
and Head Coach Michael Bruno upon the occasion of reaching the New York
State Class A Finals

WHEREAS, The game of baseball occupies a special place in the hearts and
imagination of the American people; and
WHEREAS, The game's unique charm was captured by sportswriter Red
Smith when he penned, "Ninety feet between bases is perhaps as close as
man has ever come to perfection"; and
WHEREAS, Baseball requires intelligence, teamwork, patience, focus and
skill, all traits valuable in life; and
WHEREAS, Rye's 2014 accomplishments were capped by their gallant
appearance in the State Championship game, ending a season which made
their families, school and community proud of their outstanding play
throughout the entire season and for reaching the final state champion-
ship game; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Head Coach Michael Bruno, Assistant Coach Chad
Charney, and Athletic Trainer Melissa Puterio Stover, skilled and inspi-
rational tutors, respected for their ability to develop potential into
excellence; and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record, 23-5, is outstanding, and the team
members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community-at-large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the Rye High School Baseball Team, from the
opening game of the season to participation in the championship, were a
brotherhood of athletic ability, of good sportsmanship, of honor and of
scholarship, demonstrating that these team players are second to none;
and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school; and
WHEREAS, Consistent with Babe Ruth's pronouncement that, "Baseball is
the greatest game in the world and deserves the best you can give it",
there is no doubt that the Rye High School Baseball Team gave all they
had during their outstanding 2014 season; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Rye High School Baseball Team, its members: Ryan
Anderson, Mat Bruno, Brendan Cassano, Ryan Ciardiello, Trevor Crawford,
Tim DeGraw, Brian Gardner, Tim Hale, George Kirby, Jay Little, Sam
Lubeck, Connor McGovern, Luke Meyerson, Chase Pratt, Keith Secon, Bren-
dan Tripodi, Shota Tsuda, Griffin Tutun, and Joe Zulli, as well as
Coaches Michael Bruno and Chad Charney, and Athletic Trainer Melissa
Puterio Stover upon the occasion of reaching the New York State Class A
Finals; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Rye High School Baseball Team, Coaches Michael Bruno and
Chad Charney and Athletic Trainer Melissa Puterio Stover.
