LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Rye Neck High School Baseball
Team and Head Coach Tyler Slater upon the occasion of reaching the New
York State Finals
WHEREAS, The game of baseball occupies a special place in the hearts and
imagination of the American people; and
WHEREAS, The game's unique charm was captured by sportswriter Red
Smith when he penned, "Ninety feet between bases is perhaps as close as
a man has ever come to perfection"; and
WHEREAS, Baseball requires intelligence, teamwork, patience, focus and
skill, all traits valuable in life; and
WHEREAS, Rye Neck's 2014 accomplishments were capped by their gallant
appearance in the State Championship game, ending a season which made
their families, school and community proud of their outstanding play
throughout the entire season and for reaching the final State Champion-
ship game; and
WHEREAS, These esteemed student-athletes have also won the New York
State Southeast Region Championship and were New York State Finalists;
and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Head Coach Tyler Slater, Assistant Coaches Bryan
Iacovelli, Brendan Nelson and Athletic Trainer Joe Dranoff, skilled and
inspirational tutors, respected for their ability to develop potential
into excellence; and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record, 24-2-1, is outstanding, and the
team members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family,
fans, friends and the community-at-large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the Rye Neck High School Baseball Team, from
the opening game of the season to participation in the championship,
were a brotherhood of athletic ability, of good sportsmanship, of honor
and of scholarship, demonstrating that these team players are second to
none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school; and
WHEREAS, Consistent with Babe Ruth's pronouncement that, "Baseball is
the greatest game in the world and deserves the best you can give it",
there is no doubt that the Rye Neck High School Baseball Team gave all
they had during their outstanding 2014 championship season; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Rye Neck High School Baseball Team; its members: Ryan
Aquino, Mark Babakian, Michael Bianco, Jakob Calvini, Chris Cascione,
Chris Colangelo, Matt Franks, Matt Garcia, Brendan Nashelsky, Chris
Pennell, Sam Piliero, Thomas Pipolo, Angelo Spedafino, Tyler Spinelli,
and Ben Weinstock; Coaches Tyler Slater, Bryan Iacovelli and Brendan
Nelson; and Athletic Trainer Joe Dranoff on their outstanding season and
overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Rye Neck High School Baseball Team, and the aforemen-
tioned coaches and trainer.
