LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 60th Anniversary of Deepdale
Gardens Corporations, Inc. on July 14, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities of New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organizations
and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the commu-
nity and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 60th Anniversary of Deepdale Gardens Corporations, Inc., to be
celebrated on Sunday, July 14, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Deepdale Gardens is a self-managed residential cooperative
community located in the Northeast section of Queens; incorporated in
the early 1950s, it was the largest federally sponsored housing cooper-
ative built in the United States designed as affordable housing for
World War II veterans and their families; and
WHEREAS, Deepdale Gardens is situated on 60 acres of land and is
comprised of 69 buildings containing 1,396 garden style apartments;
Deepdale Gardens Corporations consists of four corporations, with each
apartment represented by one share of stock in one of the designated
corporations; and
WHEREAS, Deepdale Gardens was featured in an article in the U.S. NEWS
& WORLD REPORT as an exemplar of cooperative living, and offers many
recreational, educational and social opportunities to its shareholders,
including laundry rooms, parking, a swimming pool club, play areas for
children, and socializing opportunities for seniors; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of its illustrious six decades, this vision-
ary organization has expanded beyond its original goals to embrace the
diversity reflective of the population of Queens County and New York
City, as well as the multi-generational aspect of its community; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to recognize and pay tribute to Deepdale Gardens Corporations; and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission, Deepdale Gardens
Corporations has demonstrated the value of fostering the cooperative
spirit; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Deepdale Gardens Corporations, Inc.;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Deepdale Gardens Corporations, Inc.
