LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Francis J. Cellery, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Francis "Frank" Jerome Cellery of Nassau, New York, died on
Monday, June 10, 2013, at the age of 70, just one week short of his 71st
Birthday; and
WHEREAS, The son of the late Anthony and Agnes (Van Order) Cellery,
Francis J. Cellery was born on June 18, 1942; he lived his entire life
in Nassau and was extremely proud of his community; and
WHEREAS, In 1993, after 30 years of dedicated service, Francis J.
Cellery retired from the United States Postal Service; he also worked
for Nassau Country Value for several years; and
WHEREAS, Francis J. Cellery distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, His commitment to excellence, and his spirit of humanity,
carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and
civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, With a strong belief in the community, Francis J. Cellery was
a member of the Nassau Hose Company for more than 50 years and served as
chief, deputy chief and assistant chief, as well as other positions over
the years; at the time of his death, he was serving as a fire commis-
sioner; and
WHEREAS, Francis J. Cellery was also a member of the Nassau Ambulance
since the young age of 16; he served as an EMT, was instrumental in the
development and design of the new ambulance station and served as the
first president after its separation from the fire department; he was
currently a member of its board of directors; and
WHEREAS, A social member of the North Chatham Fire Company, Francis J.
Cellery also served as a member of the Rensselaer County Radio Commit-
tee, Fire & EMS Committee and the R.E.S.T. (bereavement) Team; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in
Nassau, a member of the Nassau Sportsman Club, and a former member of
the Holy Name Society; he was also a member of both the planning board
for the village of Nassau, and the Nassau Republican Club, presently
serving as Republican committeeman; and
WHEREAS, In the past, Francis J. Cellery served as a Boy Scout leader,
a neighborhood chairman, and was on the bicentennial committee for the
Town of Nassau; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his son, Timothy Francis Cellery, and his
sister, Rosemary Ertel, Francis J. Cellery is survived by his wife of 49
years, Maureen (Fitzgibbons) Cellery; three children, Colleen (Kenneth)
Kirsch, Sean Cellery, and Brendan Cellery (Jillena Strevell, fiancee);
granddaughters, Aubrey Katherine Kirsch, Hunter Catherine Cellery, and
soon to be step-granddaughter, Shyann Helene Goldup; sister-in-law,
Patricia (Robert G.) Yager; nephew, Robert T. (Faith) Yager; goddaughter
and niece, Heather (Jason) Brennan; two great-nephews, Robert Timothy
Yager Jr. and Stone Parker Brennan; and one great-niece, Peyton Marian
Yager; as well as his aunt and uncle, Toni and LeRoy Van Order; and
several cousins; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Francis J. Cellery leaves behind a legacy which will long

endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Francis J. Cellery, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Francis J. Cellery.
