LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring GrowNYC upon the occasion of its desig-
nation for special recognition by Riverdale Neighborhood House

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the continuing
welfare of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched and
reliably served by the purposeful endeavors of organizations which are
committed to the preservation of our natural environment and the
enhancement of the appreciation of the distinctive features of our
surroundings, and to the economic well-being of the areas in which they
exist; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
GrowNYC upon the occasion of its designation for special recognition by
Riverdale Neighborhood House; this momentous occasion will be celebrated
at The Annual Meeting of Riverdale Neighborhood House on Tuesday, Janu-
ary 28, 2014, in Bronx, New York; and
WHEREAS, GrowNYC is a non-profit organization which improves New York
City's quality of life through environmental programs that transform
communities block by block, and empower all New Yorkers to secure a
clean and healthy environment for future generations; and
WHEREAS, Originally created in 1970 as the Council on the Environment
of New York City, GrowNYC was initially a policy-based organization,
writing comprehensive reports about quality of life issues such as air
quality, traffic and noise; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 40 years, GrowNYC has worked to become more
engaged with New York City and its citizens with such events as the
Union Square Greenmarket, building a new community garden, teaching
young people about the environment, and improving recycling awareness;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those organizations which are dedicated to increasing public
awareness of, and appreciation for, the natural resources of New York,
recognizing the role all citizens have in protecting the environment and
the quality of life in this Empire State; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon all citizens to recognize and applaud
the efforts of organizations such as GrowNYC which work tirelessly on
behalf of protecting our natural surroundings for the benefit of present
and future generations of New Yorkers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor GrowNYC upon the occasion of its designation for special recogni-
tion by Riverdale Neighborhood House; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to GrowNYC.
