LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joseph S. Nicosia for his service upon
the completion of his term as Chairman of New York State Ducks Unlimited

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Joseph S. Nicosia for his service upon the completion of his term as
Chairman of New York State Ducks Unlimited; his contributions will be
recognized at the State Convention on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the
Auburn Holiday Inn, Auburn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1937 in New York State in response to the Dust
Bowl during which North America's drought-plagued waterfowl populations
plunged to unprecedented lows, Ducks Unlimited is an international
grassroots organization that works diligently to preserve wetlands and
protect waterfowl from overhunting and extinction; and
WHEREAS, Joseph S. "Joey" Nicosia has been a member of Ducks Unlimited
for 28 years; in that time he has graciously assumed the mantle of lead-
ership in many capacities, serving as Area Chairman, District Chairman,
and State Vice Chairman, and lending his talents to the Marketing and
Communications Committee; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Nicosia, in addition to his current role as State
Chairman, serves on the State Campaign Committee, the Development
Committee and the Friends of Montezuma Board; within Ducks Unlimited, he
is a Diamond Heritage Sponsor for Ducks Unlimited Inc., a Canada Diamond
Life Sponsor, and a Mexico Diamond Life Sponsor; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious two-year term as State Chairman,
Joseph Nicosia has been an active advocate of the organization's Greenw-
ing program, a youth program that teaches its young members the impor-
tance of responsible hunting and the importance of conservation; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Joseph Nicosia is a member of the Feather Socie-
ty of Ducks Unlimited, a distinctive group which has made provisions for
continuing financial support of the organization after their passing;
this commitment is a strong indication of the depth of his passion for
Ducks Unlimited's vital work; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Nicosia is a conservationist and occasional hunter
with a deep and abiding dedication to ensuring the responsible and
respectful treatment of New York's wetlands and waterfowl; and
WHEREAS, His outstanding service to Ducks Unlimited reflects a
conviction shared by communities across this great Empire State, that
natural treasures and wildlife should be preserved and protected for
future generations of New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Joseph Nicosia has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph S. Nicosia for his service upon the completion of his term
as Chairman of New York State Ducks Unlimited; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph S. Nicosia.
