LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Brian Flaks upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service to Nassau County

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Brian Flaks upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished service to Nassau County; this momentous occasion will be
celebrated at a retirement party in his honor on Thursday, February 27,
2014, at the Coral House, Baldwin, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, Brian Flaks graduated from Lawrence High School in
Cedarhurst, New York, and joined the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department
in June of the same year; he served as the District's Fire Dispatcher
from 1978 to 1981; and
WHEREAS, Appointed to Advance Operations, Brian Flaks served President
Ronald Reagan, as well as Vice President George Bush, Sr., from 1981 to
1982; and
WHEREAS, Continuing his education, Brian Flaks attended Nassau County
Community College, SUNY New Paltz, and New York University; he earned a
Paralegal Certificate from New York Institute of Technology in 1991; and
WHEREAS, For the past 30 years, Brian Flaks rendered faithful, consci-
entious and valuable service to Nassau County, earning the admiration,
esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, A true hero, Brian Flaks was recognized by the Nassau County
Fire Commission in 1991, for his courageous actions in rescuing three
people trapped in an apartment fire; and
WHEREAS, Brian Flaks has served Nassau County for more than three
decades in the capacity of Fire Communications and Social Services, as
well as Fire Marshal, the esteemed position from which he will retire;
and
WHEREAS, President of the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Benevolent
Association from 2009 to 2013, Brian Flaks served with loyalty, honor
and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of duty and always
showed a unique grasp of human problems in his official acts; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Brian Flaks upon the occasion of his retirement after many years
of distinguished service to Nassau County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brian Flaks.
