LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Firefighter Marvin Goldowsky upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition after 50 years of
dedicated service to Mellor Engine & Hose Company No. 3, Inc. of the
Port Chester Volunteer Fire Department
WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter Marvin
Goldowsky upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 50 years of dedicated service to Mellor Engine & Hose Company No.
3, Inc. of the Port Chester Volunteer Fire Department; he will be
honored at a celebration held at the South End Firehouse, Port Chester,
New York, on Sunday, March 9, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Mellor Engine & Hose Company No. 3, Inc., which was estab-
lished in 1882, is one of seven volunteer fire companies within the
Village of Port Chester; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Goldowsky joined the Port Chester Volunteer Fire
Department in January of 1964; since then, he has held numerous posi-
tions in the Department including President and Vice President, as well
as serving on numerous committees; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Goldowsky has fought countless fires and has had a
long and distinguished record of service to the Village of Port Chester;
this remarkable firefighter followed in the footsteps of his father,
Sid, and his Uncle Bernard, both of whom were members of the Mellor
Engine & Hose Company No. 3, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, In addition to serving his community, Marvin Goldowsky served
his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1966-1970,
at SAC base, in Grand Forks, Montana; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Marvin
Goldowsky is such a firefighter; throughout 50 years of devoted service,
this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call of duty,
those responsibilities which define the task of fire protection; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Marvin Goldowsky for 50 years of distinguished
service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Firefighter Marvin Goldowsky.
